JERRY LEANNE LINDER of Buffalo, New York served at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) for 46 years with more than 39 of those years in Human Resources management. Ms. Linder was also a prolific community servant, championing education to ensure that children receive excellent education and to promote individuals becoming productive citizens in society. In 2007, she founded UB’s Volunteer Mentoring and Academic Assistance Program.
Jerry was a native of Dublin, Ohio, born to parents Wardell Sr. and Glorine (nee Hurst) Linder. After her family relocated to Buffalo, New York, Jerry graduated from East High School and obtained a Medical Secretarial Diploma from Bryant and Stratton Institute (now Bryant and Stratton College), an Associate of Applied Sciences in Business from UB and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Human Resources Management from Empire State College. She also earned certification in Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. In her most recent position with UB from 1998 - 2016 as Manager of Classification, Recruitment Staffing and Salary Administration, Ms. Linder administered compensation policies and practices for all university staff and faculty. Prior to that, she managed the university’s retirement programs and recruitment processes. Ms. Linder’s career with the university began in 1970 when she was Assistant to the Business Manager for the University at Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center. She was also briefly employed with the City of Buffalo as a Fiscal Supervisor, maintaining corporate financial records for the Office of Manpower Planning CETA Program.
Ms. Linder was a member on numerous boards including the Board of Directors for South Buffalo Charter School; the Board of Trustees for Aloma D. Johnson Charter School; the Board of Trustees for Friendship Missionary Baptist Church; the Board of Trustees for Friendship’s housing developments, Friendship Manor and A. C. Ware Manor and the Board of Directors for the Rental Assistance Corporation.
Ms. Linder received recognition for her impactful contributions to community from many governmental offices and organizations including the New York State Assembly, the County of Erie, the City of Buffalo, UB and True Bethel Baptist Church. Ms. Linder was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and her home-state Georgia Bulldogs, and she enjoyed bowling and traveling on cruises. Ms. Linder is survived by her only child, her son, Dr. Darryl Tyler (Xiomara) Linder of Florida.
Jerry Leanne Linder entered into eternal rest on January 30, 2022.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 7, 2022, 5 PM - 8 PM at Friendship Baptist Church, 402 Clinton Street, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, 11 AM. A Home Going Celebration will follow at 12 Noon. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
